A life of regret
We cannot follow each path
laid beneath our feet.
How are we to choose between
the sky, the land, and the sea?

The body cannot
occupy all spheres at once.
How can we be free,
if not even our spirit
can dance out among the stars?

Outside, lurking, is
a dark storm, hidden from view
There is a silence,
broken only by the birds,
and a passing ambulance

Safe inside I lay,
basking in the golden sun
Brisk, fresh air flows
through the wide open window,
and sunlight spills onto me

How nice to stay here,
amidst all the world’s worries,
and be but at peace
